Dear
Sir or Madam:
I
was very pleased to comply with the request of my former
student, Ms. Xxx, for a letter of reference in support
of her application for graduate studies at your university.
I made acquaintance with Ms. Xxxin 2000, when she was
enrolled in my course on commercial bank management.
During that course, I one day I asked my students to
turn in their homework assignments. Ms. Xxxwas one of
several students who had not finished on time. However,
unlike some students who handed in their late assignments
by copying another's work, Ms. Xxxcame to my office
after class to offer an explanation. She demonstrated
honesty and a responsible character. The next day, she
turned in her assignment, which showed her clear comprehension
of the course material. Her answers were all right on
target, and many of them incorporated a creative perspective
on the question. I therefore awarded her an "A"
for the assignment, the highest score in the class.
From then on, I took notice of Ms. Yan. In my view,
she is a person of few words and much action, and she
possesses the valuable attributes of honesty and persistence.
Diligent and intelligent, Ms. Xxxtakes every opportunity
to satisfy her strong desire for advanced learning.
During seminars, she showed a strong ability to grasp
fundamental theories and to apply them creatively. Her
profound insights and systematic expression made all
her comments interesting and thought provoking. In addition,
she attended every lecture given by visiting alumni
who were researching abroad, without exception. The
influence of these international researchers, combined
with her own ambition, has led her to pursue further
study.
I am most impressed by Ms. Yan's personality. She is
confident, optimistic, hard-working and a mature thinker.
She shows exceptional determination, and is not daunted
by any difficulties. She believes that she can achieve
anything through hard work. Furthermore, she is a kind
person with a warm heart, who shows concern not only
for her classmates, but also for society at large. I
have vivid memories of her community involvement. During
the summer of 2000, she organized her classmates to
provide volunteer help for elderly people who had lost
their spouses or offspring during the flood in Hunan,
helping them clean their houses and organizing entertaining
performances. This initiative was greatly praised by
teachers and students throughout the university. I have
always felt that this young woman would achieve a bright
future.
I judge Ms. Xxxto be a competent and conscientious student,
and I am sure her admirable character and your distinguished
graduate program can help her to further her achievements.
Therefore, I strongly recommend her admission, without
reservation, and would appreciate your favorable consideration
of her application.
Sincerely Yours,
